3rd Annual Caching Riding Mountain Adventure Quest

The 3rd Annual Adventure Quest, held June 13 & 14 2009, was an exciting time and lots of fun was had by the participants. The Adventure Quest is a GPS based, 26-hour race throughout the entire Riding Mountain Biosphere Reserve. Participants tested their geocaching skills (or developed new ones!) while they visited picturesque areas of the biosphere reserve and participated in unique activities that they may never have tried before.

2009 Adventure Quest Participants

During the 2009 GPS Adventure Quest 18 teams raced to find over 50 GPS locations which were hidden throughout Riding Mountain Biosphere Reserve.   This years activity caches had teams making and serving the perfect ice cream cone or cup of cappuccino at the Heavenly Scoop in Ochre River, flailing wheat at the Negrych Homestead national historic site north of Gilbert Plains and counting cups at the Old Church Pottery on Highway 10 south of Erickson.  The remainder of the locations were a variety of cache types; from virtual caches where information had to be acquired, to barely discernable micro-caches, and larger containers hidden in plain sight.

Congratulations to the 3rd Annual Caching Riding Mountain GPS Adventure Quest Winners!!

  • 3rd Place Team: The Fantastic 4

During the 2008 GPS Adventure Quest there were 75 GPS locations to locate, in tribute to the 75th Anniversary of our core protected area, Riding Mountain National Park. Fifteen of these locations were activity caches where teams had to participate in various challenges from carding wool at the Fairmount B&B, and saddling a horse to ride through a designated route at a Parkland Ranch in Inglis, to donning full fireman’s-gear and blowing a steel drum through a course using a fire hose with the Ochre River Fire Department.
